What I learned in NYC
New York City. The city that never sleeps. The concrete jungle where dreams are made of. Whatever you call it, New York is definitely a city that runs on its own beat and isn't for the faint of heart.Growing up in Austin, I definitely grew up with a different vibe than what New York has to offer. After a weekend there, I definitely started to miss the more laid back pace. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVED New York and I will be back. Here are a couple of things I learned during my time out there:
- Hailing a cab is stupid. Ubers are useless. Learn the subway system. It's not quite as intimidating once you get the hang of it
- THERE'S TOO MUCH FOOD. So pick and choose wisely because you won't be able to eat everything that you plan to, not even all of the IG-worthy ones
- People don't have personal space. It's something you just have to accept
- DO get a bagel. And a New York slice of pizza. Just do it. #Nike
- The men there love to hit on women... Cat-calling is uncomfortable no matter where
- You can definitely walk the city, but wear comfortable shoes
- The bars don't close until 4AM. 4 A M. Like, what. Obviously I was not prepared
- The people in New York dress like they're always ready to show out. Walking down SOHO everyone looked like Instagram models
- Go see a show. Comedy. Broadway. The choices are endless and there are SO many cheap ticket options! Just make sure that you're getting a fair deal and not getting scammed
- Museums are a must do. I suggest to try and pick at least 2-3 to fit into your schedule. Definitely go to the 9/11 Memorial if you want to bawl your eyes out (like I did)
- Try and visit as many of the different neighborhoods as you can. They all have a different vibe and they're unique from each other
- You're going to want to sleep, but you're probably only going to get like 3-4 hours. It's okay, it's worth it. Early bird gets the worm!
Have you been to New York before? What was your favorite thing to see/eat/do? I'd love to know! Drop me a comment fam! With Love,Jin
