Twist: A Milkbar & Launderette Pop-Up

HOKAY DOKAY. I was super excited when I found out that Momofuku's own Milk Bar was having a pop-up with Austin's very own Launderette. If you've never heard of cereal milk soft serve, let me do my best to enlighten you. Milk Bar has a ton of locations in NYC and D.C. - cities that I don't visit very often, so it was a rare occasion to have Christina Tosi's creations within reach. And I just HAD to satisfy my true #foodie and to see if all the hype around these desserts is truly worth it.In my opinion, what makes this treat a must-try is the simple play on childhood memories. Close your eyes and take a trip down memory lane of pouring your favorite bowl of sugary cereal with a heaping portion of milk, only to screw up the cereal to milk ratio. Then, all you're left with is a bowl of sugary, delicious milk that you have to slurp up (because that's the only way to finish a bowl of cereal). Now, imagine that glorious bowl of leftover cereal milk in soft serve form. Oh. Yes.Now, you're probably wondering, "Okay, so was this worth it or not, Jin? Was this everything you've been waiting for?" Delicious? 100% Yes. Worth it? Not necessarily. I think I would have had a better experience going to an actual store front versus waiting in line for a pop-up. However, this soft serve was special because it was done in collaboration with Launderette: Cereal Milk Soft Serve TWISTED with Graham Cracker Soft Serve TOPPED with Cornflake Crunch & Salted Pretzel Crumble. That's a mouthful, and I finished my $6 serving in a mouthful. They were selling baked goodies too and I was anxiously waiting to try the also famed, equally drool-worthy, crack pie. However, they ran out of by the time I was ready to place my order (sadface). I did walk away with some cookies that I truly do love. The Compost Cookie has everything but the kitchen sink. The Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookie has everything you love about a good chocolate chip cookie and then some extra chunks of deliciousness. And the odd one out, the Corn Cookie (my personal favorite), has everything you love about cornbread made on the sweeter side. Think sugar cookie with the perfect balance of salt to compliment the palette. These cookies were the perfect amount of chew and crunch. 10/10 would recommend.Thank you Milk Bar & Christina Tosi for stopping by Austin. Maybe you'll open up a shop here? I think that the amount of love that this city and its food-crazed population has shown you during your visit is enough to persuade you to open a storefront *wink wink* I also still need to try that crack pie of yours...Have you had a similar experience where the hype-worthy food you just HAD to try didn't necessarily exceed your expectations? I'd love to know! Drop me a comment :) With Love,Jin.
